The idea behind this exploration task was to gather and manipulate information and raw data gathered from the 2011 london riots and create a graphic representation which can be easily read and understood by a third party. (an infographic)

The first stage of this exploration, we created, as a group; a set of diagrams with a key. The system was based around what occured during the riots at set locations across london and categorizing them into 5 main fields[below]. it aslo shows the system in a minor phase of development.

A great example and starting point for some research is the guardians data journalism reading for the riot [link provided top of page]

There are 6 categories, death, arson, congregation, vandalism, looting, violence. the height of each spike correlates to the frequency within an area.

What is an info-graphic?
a visual representation of information or data
e.g. as a chart or diagram.
The Tube map is a schematic transit map of the lines and stations of London's public railway systems, namely the London Underground AKA the Tube. Schematic means it shows not necessarily the geographic but rather the relative positions of stations along the lines, stations' connective relations with each other and fare zones. This is one of the most iconic inforgraphics in the world.
This is a development drawing of a post workshop idea to alter the data to create a hexagonal data display. The shape that would form would be constrained by the frequency of each category. You could then compare or overlay each shape.
an info-graphic are not constrained to being 2D flat objects but can be video, sound or a 3D interactive space. he are some links...
